Measuring Guide

BASW Blinds are Made-to-Measure – which means they’re made especially for you and your windows based on the information you give us when placing your order.

Though measuring for your perfect Blinds is easier than it may seem, it’s really important to get the measurements right. The instructions below provide a step-by-step guide on how to measure for your perfect window solution.

What you’ll need

  • Paper and a pencil (to write down your measurements).
  • A tape measure. (Metal tape measures provide the most accurate readings so we suggest you use one of these).
  • Some time - so that you can concentrate on measuring correctly so as to achieve a perfect Made-to-Measure Blind.

Your decision

There are 2 ways that a Blind can be positioned at a window or door.

  • Recess Fit: This means that the blind will sit inside the recess of the frame (right up against the window).
  • Exact Fit: This means that the blind will not sit inside the recess of the frame but rather ‘over’ the frame with the blind slightly overlapping the frame of the window or doorway. (In this type of fit, the blind will sit slightly away from the window).

It’s up to you which type of fit you choose – Recess Fit or Exact Fit – but, when measuring for your Made-to-Measure Blind, please be sure to follow the right set of instructions below for the type of fit you want. Also, when placing the order and entering the details online, make sure you select the correct option (Recess or Exact) from the dropdown menu.

Guidelines for Measuring for RECESS FIT Blinds

‘Recess Fit’ is if you want the blind to fit inside the recess of the frame. Please provide us with the exact measurements (as per the instructions below) and we will make the necessary tolerances.

Recess Measurement    Recess Measurement

1) Measure the WIDTH for your ‘Recess Fit’ blind:

  • Take 2 or 3 measurements for the width of the recess from wall to wall as shown in the picture.
  • Write down the shortest measurement in millimetres.
  • We will make the necessary deduction of 12mm for the fittings and brackets to ensure the blind operates perfectly within the window recess.

2) Measuring the DROP for your ‘Recess Fit’ blind:

  • Take 2 or 3 measurements for the drop of the window recess (head to sill) as shown in the picture.
  • Write down the smallest of these measurements in millimetres.
  • We will make the necessary deduction for the fittings and brackets to ensure the blind operates perfectly within the window recess.

Guidelines for Measuring for RECESS FIT Blinds

‘Exact Fit’ is if you want the blind to sit on the outside of the recess, slightly overlapping the window and its frame. Please provide us with the exact measurements (as per the instructions below) and we will make the blind to your specified dimensions with no deductions.

Exact Blind Measurement    Exact Blind Measurement

1) Measure the WIDTH for your ‘Exact Fit’ blind:

  • Decide how much you want the blind to overlap the recess at each side. We recommend at least 70mm each side to minimise light leakage.
  • Write down the overall width measurement including the overlap in millimetres.

2) Measure the DROP for your ‘Recess Fit’ blind:

  • Decide how much you want the blind to overlap the recess at the top and bottom. We recommend at least 70mm at the top if the blind is required to roll up fully above the window recess.
  • Write down the overall drop measurement including the overlap in millimetres.

PLEASE REMEMBER!

  • Record all measurements in millimetres and then provide those millimetre measurements when placing your order.
  • Please also remember that we make blinds especially for you and your windows based on the measurements you enter when placing your order. Because of this, we are unable to accept any returns due to blinds being incorrectly measured for and / or measurements being entered incorrectly during the online ordering process.
